Shana Young is a certified Human Behavior Consultant, focusing on helping individuals understand personalities to improve communication and become a more effective leader. In addition, Young is certified in a variety of self-assessment tools, including DiSC, Bar-On Emotional Intelligence, Hogan, Myers-Briggs and RightPath. She is a Certified Executive Coach and consultant on 360° assessments.
Shana is also lead on strategic planning research, development and writing for many Leadership Institute clients, to include the City of Columbus’ “10 Year Plan to End Homelessness.”
Young earned a bachelor’s degree in Media Studies from Valdosta State University and a master’s degree in Communication from Auburn University. She joined Columbus State University as an assistant professor of Communication in 2004. Prior to returning to academia full time, she worked as a corporate trainer for Vital Processing Services, now known as TSYS Acquiring. In addition to teaching for CSU, she has also taught for Auburn University, Chattahoochee Valley Community College, The University of Phoenix online and The Art Institute online. Her background includes broad knowledge in the field of communication, public speaking, and training and development.
She is also extremely active in the Columbus community, serving on the board of directors for the Columbus Alliance for Battered Women, (DBA Hope Harbour Board), and as a member of the Mayor’s Opportunity Center Task Force and the Junior League of Columbus.
Young previously served on the boards of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Home for Good and the Junior League of Columbus. In 2016, she was named as one of Georgia Trend’s “40 Under 40.” She is a 2009 graduate of the Greater Columbus Georgia Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Columbus and was named one of Columbus and the Valley Magazine’s “5 Under 40” in 2012.
